You’ll find me featured on Neil Patel’s recent blog post about content marketing as a tool for improving engagement. He cites my comment that a pillar of a great campaign is knowing who your target audience is (obviously, right?).

Knowing your audience helps you create evergreen and useful content just for them. The evergreen aspect isn’t a must, but it’s ideal since it has the highest ROI and promises steady traffic growth.

That’s just one part of Patel’s winning 17-point checklist. Making sure you correctly pinpoint your audience’s needs comes first. Figure out what their heart desires, then keep an eye on your competition. They can provide plenty of inspiration (not flat-out stealing of ideas, products, and services, of course).

Go to forums that are related to your niche for more ideas, and lurk away. You may find what you need to redefine your content strategy.

A content map can be helpful, and having a flexible workflow plan is a must. Ensure your site is readable and keep track of frequent questions your customers have—then answer them thoroughly and transparently.
